Next up for me is NYCC! It's my first big Con outside of Philadelphia- I'm just going as a fan, but I'm hoping to meet some of the folks I've befriended online over the years, and I think I might have a custom or two with me in case anyone is interested.

Wow.

I just got home and I found out my Custom Corps wave @ Glyos.com sold out! This is a big moment for me, it's my first official collaboration with a toy maker and it was awesome, and to know that other people were just as excited about it as I was is a wonderful thing. thank you everybody who picked up some of my stuff. You're support will keep me painting and creating. And a super big thanks To Matt Doughty and the whole Onell crew- You were so generous and gracious with everything, thank you thank you thank you!

CUstom Corps Wave 4 Release TODAY!!!

Well, it's a big day for me- Tonight August 13 (Friday the 13th no less!) at 7pm EST at www.glyos.com my official Custom Corps wave is dropping and I couldn't be happier! 100 figures built, painted, and dyed, over 6 months. Each figure is a "powered up" style figure, meaning its built from more pieces then standard (with the exception of one Armodoc). It was a labor of love, I hope everyone who wants one can get one and is happy with what they get! I hope I get to collaborate with Matt and the crew at Glyos.com again!

Glyos Custom Corps!

Well, earlier in the week I finally finished! The painting of my Official Glyos Custom Corps is done and I just had to share some pics! It took quite a while, but I'm so happy I got the opportunity! Thanks to Matt and Jesse and all the Glyos crew, Roy, and everybody on October Toy forum! These are a few custom Rangeas I painted in 2009- I wanted to post them here for the sake of having a record of them on the site. Rangeas is my favorite Kaiju toy to paint, I could paint them all day. I love all the character that just pours out on this toy.

Just in time for Easter!
While I'm waiting on some special parts for the Glyos project I am working on I decided to actually get around to painting some of the Japanese vinyl I've got, and I started with one of my favorite toys- Rangeas by T9G.

Rangeas here turned out pretty Easter-ish, the initial plan wasn't anything like this all, he was going to be black with red highlights and green horns. I started with the beard, and then I just went from there and instead of black he turned out purple and blue and given the time of year I figured I'd go with it. ;) The horns were left bare, to show the original vinyl in some way. Now my good buddy Joe over at Kaiju Chronicle painted am Easter themed Rangeas last year for the ICFSB1 show, so yeah I'm taking your idea Joe, whatcha gonna do about it?

Hey Everybody! How have all my readers (both of them) been? Sorry I've not updated this blog in so long. Here's a breif recap of te last 4-5 months:

There's been some sadness lately- Kaiju-Taro isn't shipping V-color to the USA anymore... So the following group has been my farewell to v-color. I'll be painting until I run out, painting some things that I've always wanted to paint... hopefully. Sayonara V-color.

These two were paited for the ICFSB show, but didn't make the final cut- The Barbarian has found a new home, but the Rangeas is available if anyone is interested!

I had one more mini to paint, a mini Zagoran, but I didn't know what I wanted to do with him. While waiting for the Eagles game I watched one of my favorite MST3K episodes- Godzilla versus Megalon and it came to me how I was going to paint the Zag. It was simple, it was all in the smile.

Ever since I got KT Solid Bakobas on a whim I've wanted to paint some more Gargamel Minis... well, I managed to snag a few more and I'm loving these little guys. I was so enthused about these guys that I painted 3 of them in one day! They just have so much character. It's psyching me up for the Gargamel swap which should be wrapping up at skullbrain.org soon. Hopefully I'll have more opportunities to paint more in the future!

I was thinking about scorpions the other day (doesn't everyone?) and how some dull looking scorpions are florescent when under UV light. I wanted to try something in that vein, to see just what my florescent V-Color could do. The only thing I wish was that there was a florescent blue available.

Halloween is just around the Corner!

Halloween is coming, so here's some customs to get you in the spirit. The Obake sheet started out as just a piece to test some techniques on, as I'm not a huge fan of the Obake... but by the end I quite liked the look of it.

The Pumkinbrain is inspired by Autumn leaves and the fall in general.

Sometimes I'll paint, and then at the advice of others, or just through my own preference I'll change it later on in some way, hopefully as an improvement. Everything is a Work in Progress I guess, here's some of the latest updates of old favorites:

Maggie the Rangeas:

At the advice of Gathchabert I added some detail to the horns on my last Rangeas.

Again, bert suggested a bit of accent on the tips of the horns, which I think is a definite improvement.

Hypnos Skullwing:

Here I was a little more drastic with the changes, dirtying and darkening it up. In the end I thin its a more sinister Skullwing.

More Secret Base Love!

These are the latest I've painted:The Damaged Brain I did for the Swap was really well received, so I thought I'd try a twist on it. They are similar, but different enough.

Ever since the Secret Base X Grapple collaboration was released I've been wanting to do this. I lucked out recently and scored a Sharkman so I finally got to do it! Great White Sharkman is born.
Ahh the Microbrains. Initially I was just going to do each of the original 4 colors, but the reception on these guys has been so overwhelming I decided to do sets. Each set has an Orange Microbrain (everyone's favorite) and a companion. This is the 2nd set of Microbrains I've painted. The first was Orange and Yellow. The Third set is coming soon! Keep an eye out!

Tripasu!

This was the first Cronic Piece I've had the pleasure of painting. Tripasu, a collaboration between Max Toy Co. and the aforementioned Cronic. I was really excited when I first saw images of this figure, but to be honest I wasn't as thrilled with it once I got it. So it languished for a while unpainted. Eventually I picked it back up and tried a bit of a Zoidberg colorscheme and it turned out really nice. Unfortunately it has a lot of pearly colors that don't show up as well in the pictures as I'd like. Its really one you should see in person.

I gotta keep updated- The Rangeas figure has got to be my #2 favorite Sculpt of all the Kaiju/Neo Kaiju/Fight Figure genre right after the Secret Base Skull-style figures. I traded my "Hunter" Rangeas/Skullwing a while back and have always missed it. Then I got a bit of a deal on a SDCC '08 Rangeas and got paint another one! A while back a friend suggested I paint a monster Purple and green, and I guess subliminally I went with those colors, so I named it after her. It's Maggie the Rangeas! I've since added a little shading to the horns, but I haven't taken any new pictures yet.

I ran the 2nd custom figure swap @ skullbrain.org a while back, it theme was Secret Base fight figures and it went over great. We had like 10 Awesome entries- These two were what I painted. The Damaged Brain was my entry and the Skullbee was a prize figure for the most impressive. The Damaged Brain went over really well!

So I recently finally got the seemingly elusive "DBM Skullbrain", and its a sortof a tribute to 'King Walder', a villain from the old Takara toy line Henshin Cyborg. I thought, who could he fight? How about an homage of my own? Not of Henshin Cyborg, but of its direct decendants Microman. Enter, the Microbrain.

Its double-shot Tuesday, and I have to run to work:

My favorite vinyl figure has to be the Skullwing, and I love painting them. This was a experiment in splatter technique as well as a but of an homage to a LASH custom I saw once.

The second custom of the day is the only non-Secretbase figure in this set of daily customs. I wanted to go with a Pacific Giant Octopus color scheme. Its simple, but I likes it.

So yeah, thing one was fun to do, and expensive. I saw one of those larger SKullmerry's and realized "Hey I like that Skull Head better then the small skullmerry head." So I bought a big skullmerry (a pink one) and then while I was waiting for it, asked the important question, whether or not it would fit... Turns out after a little cutting it fits fine, and looks not too bad, right? I had fun painting this one; the body is translucent which you can't really see in these pictures, but then held up to the light the color is a bit like dry blood.

I'd like to paint another one of these, but I doubt it'll happen unless SB releases a cheaper large Skullmerry, but if not, its still neat.

Daily Custom #2 - A Visitor from Space

Here is Sunday's monster: The Visitor. First time painting a Space Barbarian, or whatever they're called. I really didn't know how this was going to come out. I decided to try for a bit of a 1950's "Teenagers From Outer Space" look to the body.
I think the simple look to it is a good contrast to the head under the helmet, which I wanted to look very colorful and vibrant. It's a shame that the Barbarian head is usually hidden, because its really an awesome sculpt.

I've been productive lately. This Skullwing started as a Bullseye. I coated the inside with a metallic blue, then sprayed gold and red on the outside. Interestingly, the paint I coated the inside with had a reaction to the vinyl and as a result, this wing is softer then the it once was.

Alien Double Ant

Combining the intellegence of a carpenter ant, and the ferocity of a fire ant, these genetically altered fighters battle because they no nothing else and will not be happy until all other life is destroyed. Badass eh?

This is the original colorscheme I chose, but was never 100% happy with it. It was my first attempt at airbrush.
